9/11

           When I think of the attacks on NYC on September 11th, 2001, many thoughts flood my mind. To me, it is a day to reflect upon and pay tribute to all those who serve our nation. Something that really began to manifest in my mind was how tragic events in many circumstances, just like 9/11, always seems to strip people of a layer of materialism for some time. The events of 9/11 led me to a very introspective state of mind, to really question why society is shaped the way it is. Many times, people put too much focus on "Success" so to speak, or living out the typical "American dream." When lives are taken away so suddenly we are quickly reminded of our fragile mortality. In turn, making us realize that each other is the most important assest individuals have. So everytime I am know reminded of how quickly my life could be taken away, I make sure I do not waste it focusing on the material things of the day.
      9/11 changed America socially, politically, and definetely economically. Although many people protest that America should never have gone to war, in the end it was a very rational descision. After all, who knows how many tragedies we could have avoided because of the faithful troops serving overseas? Life changed rather rapidly after September 11th. First off, many religions took an attack by being served the question, "Why would a good God allow such a terrible thing?" Much racism also rose during this period. This only split into more resentment. However, the USA body as a whole- became more united than ever. It really tied the people together to understand that in the end, we are all really on the same side, and we must fight for the good to prevail.
       The movie "102 minutes that Changed America" didn't really change much of my views on 9/11; most likely because it has been 11 years of hearing many personal stories of what people have heard and seen. One thing is for sure after watching this film however: America would not be same nation whatsoever had it not been for the violent attacks on 9/11. Cruel attacks indeed, but it definetely gave us Americans a clearer vision of what we must do to ensure saftey and protection for all peoples.
      Life evolves everyday for people after 9/11, especially those who were luckily survivors. For example, a certain individual I know who works in the World Trade Center missed work that day because last minute he had to take the bus which was running late. He was about an hour late for work and while he was uptown, he had heard the news. For so long after, he questioned the thought, "Why am I alive?" "Maybe things do happen for a reason." and the famous line, "What's my purpose?"
    Indeed this brought a wake-up call for everyday Americans who never treasured their life as much as we ought to. A sad day in history, but thankfully as a nation we surely brought some good out it so pay all the more respect for the brave servicemen who risked their lives for our safety, and for all the innocent lives which were taken that tragic morning.

September 11, 2001 - Never forget.

Intro

       I, Pradeep Joseph, am very happy to have the opportunity to finally make my very first blog. Contrary to popular opinion, writing, I believe, allows a sense of creativity and thought to flow together at once. To me, writing appeared to be the one tool to expose someone's deepest and most genuine thoughts. Indeed, I do not minimize the importance of verbal communication, rather I emphasize a need to partake in both. Which in turn, is why I find it compellingly important people of all ages should take time out of their days to write down and gather thoughts flooding their brains.
     To begin this introduction to my blog, I would like to write about the shool year. Thus far, my senior year has been very good and it seems as if this will be a year full of memories. For the first time in all four years of my high school experience, I would consider my schedule to be excellent and very accomodating. I get all of my core classes, such as AP Chem, AP Bio, Calculus, etc. out of the way in the morning. This leaves room for a stress-free afternoon.
     Sociology seems to be a very interesting class so far, and I am surely looking forward to the rest of what's in store. The reason this class in particular stands out to me, is because I am very interesting in how society works. I like to observe society's role in all else that surrounds it. Many dilemmas rush to my head when I think of why certain things function the way they do.
     Overall, this blog would be centered around the concept of social sciences and why society is structured and develops the way it does.
